Chili peppers, red hot

Chili peppers also are known as Cayenne pepper.

Red Chili peppers or Red Cayenne pepper is from the genus Capsicum annum. It is not the most used Chili pepper in Thailand though you will find it a lot.

It is not the hottest of chilis it has a Scoville scale from 30,000 to 50,000 SHU.

It originates from the region of French Guiana. But nowadays it is grown in almost all tropical areas.

Red Cayenne pepper is used in Thai food both fresh and dried. In the dried form it is mostly made into powder.

But you will also find it on the side of certain dishes where you eat it as a whole fruit.

It is also used as a natural remedy in Traditional medicine. Nicholas Culpeper mentioned in his book from 1653 “Complete herbal”

I also use cayenne pepper, in addition to my food as a natural remedy.  If my nose is blocked, I chew a little piece, it is of cause very “hot” but, most times it clear my nose.
